After spending two consecutive weeks as hot adult contemporary’s second-most-added song, Sam Smith’s “I’m Not the Only One” rises to the top of this week’s Mediabase Add Board.
The follow-up to multi-format phenomenon “Stay with Me” picked up support from another 20 monitored Mediabase stations this week. That gave it the edge over Tove Lo’s breakthrough “Habits (Stay High)” and Train’s “Cadillac, Cadillac,” each of which scored 14 monitored adds this week.
Currently #18 and #17, respectively, on the Mediabase Hot AC airplay chart, “Only One” and “Habits” will leverage the new support to continue their climbs. Train’s song is at #49 and thus just beginning to make its run.
Other popular choices for radio programmers this week included Maroon 5’s “Animals” (4th-most-added, 12 adds), OneRepublic’s “I Lived” (4th-most-added, 12 adds), Daughtry’s “Battleships” (6th-most-added, 11 adds), Fall Out Boy’s “Centuries” (7th-most-added, 9 adds), Milky Chance’s “Stolen Dance” (8th-most-added, 8 adds), Nico and Vinz’ “In Your Arms” (8th-most-added, 8 adds) and Vance Joy’s “Riptide” (8th-most-added, 8 adds).
Kind to the aforementioned songs, radio programmers were less intrigued with newly-impacting releases from Lady Antebellum and Better Than Ezra.
Former country #1 “Bartender,” which represents Lady A’s latest crossover effort, scored only four adds this week. While Hot AC can sometimes be slow to embrace new songs–Vance Joy’s “Riptide” scored four adds on impact before ultimately beginning a surge up the airplay chart–the light add count speaks negatively of the possibility that “Bartender” will be an instant crossover smash.
“Gonna Get Better,” the Better Than Ezra song, landed at just 2 stations.
