While its initial iTunes performance has not lived up to expectations, One Direction’s “Steal My Girl” remains immensely appealing to pop radio programmers.
After scoring 37 monitored Mediabase adds in conjunction with last week’s official impact, the lead “FOUR” single picks up a whopping 69 this week. It easily bests hotly anticipated releases from Ariana Grande, Charli XCX and MAGIC! to rank as the week’s most-added song.
Because “Steal My Girl” received an unnatural level of airplay on its first day of release, it suffered from the inevitable “eighth day decline” Monday. Despite that decline, which resulted in a reduction of 382 spins and 5.51 million audience impressions from its rolling weekly totals, “Steal My Girl” remains the #27 song at pop radio.
Thanks to the abundance of adds this week, the song should have no trouble soon reversing course and working its way back up the chart.
Overshadowed by “Steal My Girl,” the aforementioned Grande, XCX and MAGIC! songs nonetheless had very good weeks at radio.
Grande’s “Love My Harder” collaboration with The Weeknd ranks as second-most-added with new support from 49 monitored stations. Charli XCX’s “Break the Rules,” which is already #41 on the airplay chart, claimed third-most-added with 44 pickups. MAGIC!’s “Let Your Hair Down” claims fourth place with 35 adds.
Other hot performers include Fergie’s “LA Love (la la)” (5th, 33 adds), Maroon 5’s “Animals” (6th, 31 adds), Sam Smith’s “I’m Not the Only One” (7th, 29 adds), Nico and Vinz’ “In Your Arms” (8th, 23 adds), David Guetta’s “Dangerous (featuring Sam Martin)” (9th, 22 adds) and Alesso’s “Heroes (we could be – featuring Tove Lo)” (10th, 18 adds).
