Update: “24: Live Another Day” Ratings Fall Another 12%

Update: Monday’s “24: Live Another Day,” which faced the burden of airing on Memorial Day but also benefited from the absence of competition from “The Voice” and “Dancing with the Stars”, suffered a ratings decline.

Down 12% from last week’s broadcast in the demo, the latest edition of “24: LAD” drew a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating. Its viewership average, however, improved narrowly to 5.73 million.

The adults 18-49 rating for this week’s “24” trails that of the May 5 premiere by 44%.

The last thing a series wants amid a ratings decline is to air on a holiday.

FOX’s imited event series “24: Live Another Day,” which had endured two weeks of ratings drops following its solid May 5 premiere performance, faced that burden Monday.

Airing on the Memorial Day holiday, the latest “24” episode predictably slipped another 7% to a 4.3 overnight household rating. While there is no guarantee the same drop will manifest in the adults 18-49 and total viewership numbers, the soft overnight performance rules out the possibility that the series enjoyed a significant rebound.

And while airing on the Memorial Day holiday did the show no favors, it is worth noting that this week’s episode dealt with considerably weaker competition. Both ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” and NBC’s “The Voice” wrapped their seasons last week.
