Lea Michele’s “Tonight Show” Draws Bigger Ratings Than “Glee”

Ratings are all about perspective.

For NBC, the household rating for Tuesday’s edition of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” was a disappointment. Down 17% from Monday’s number, “Tonight” tied its series low 3.5 overnight household rating.

That rating, however, brings a positive implication for “Glee” star Lea Michele. While it confirms that she (and fellow guest Chelsea Handler) are not meaningful late night ratings draws, it also reveals that “Tonight” was a better platform for her to reach viewers than her FOX musical comedy.

Tuesday’s “Glee,” which aired in primetime at 8PM, delivered a mere 2.1 overnight household rating.

While its lead in adults 18-49 will not be as significant, “The Tonight Show” definitely put Michele in front of a larger audience than “Glee” did earlier in the evening.

That larger audience witnessed Michele’s performance of “Cannonball,” the lead single off her debut album “Louder.”

Later in the night, “Late Night with Seth Meyers” also tied a series low in the overnights. It scored a 1.7.
