Pessimism stemming from its ranking on the iTunes Album Sales chart was warranted. Candice Glover’s “Music Speaks” is pacing to set a new low mark for an “American Idol” winner’s debut album.
According to Hits Daily Double, the Glover album is tracking to move just 17-19,000 in its inaugural week.
Lee DeWyze’s post-“Idol” debut “Live it Up,” which sold 39,000 in its inaugural week, holds the current low mark for an “Idol” winner’s first release.
The victim of delays and minimal hype, Glover’s album did not stand a chance of resonating in the marketplace. That it was associated with season twelve of “American Idol,” the least buzzworthy one on record, did not help matters.
Phillip Phillips’ “The World from the Side of the Moon” and Scotty McCreery’s “Clear as Day,” the last two debut releases from “Idol” winners, moved 169,000 and 197,000 first week copies, respectively.
