As entertainment’s most buzzed-about celebrity, Miley Cyrus’ appearance on “Saturday Night Live” was certain to include ample self-parody.
It was also certain to include efforts to generate viral attention.
Those two concepts came together in the music parody “We Did Stop,” which aired to hearty laughter from the live audience and social media users.
A dual parody of Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop” video and the government shutdown, the clip starred Taran Killam as John Boehner and Miley Cyrus as Michele Bachmann. Predictably, Killam’s Boehner, rather than Cyrus’ Bachmann, offered a more explicit parody of Cyrus’ racy performance from the original video.
In addition to the visual homage, the segment also featured a lyrical adaptation for the government shutdown. The full lyrics, courtesy SNL’s Tumblr, follow:
