Revealed: The “Seinfeld” Storyline on “Curb Your Enthusiasm”

“Curb Your Enthusiam”‘s Larry David finally revealed storyline plans for the seventh season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and the “Seinfeld” cast integration is just as many fans of the HBO comedy would have guessed.

David confirmed that the “Seinfeld” leads–Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander and Michael Richards–will appear in a handful of episodes as part of a storyline based on the (fictional) revival of the 1980s-90s sitcom sensation. The storyline will be introduced early in the season and culminate with the cast members working to bring the show back to television.

“For years I’ve been asked about a ‘Seinfeld’ reunion as has Jerry and the other cast members,” said David at the Television Critics Association panel. “We’re going to see, we’ll see writing, we’ll see aspects of the read-throughs, parts of rehearsals, you’ll see the show being filmed and you’ll see it on TV.”

Regarding plans for the fictional “Seinfeld” reunion, David said, “What will you see? You won’t see the entire show. You’ll see parts of the show, you’ll get an idea of what happened 11 years later. And within the show, it will be incorporated into regular ‘Curb’ episodes so the cast members will be playing themselves on ‘Curb’ while all this is going on.”

Other familiar faces from “Seinfeld” are expected to make cameos as part of the storyline.

The formula for the fictional revival series thus appears to resemble that of “Jerry,” the show-within-a-show that was the focal point of “Seinfeld”‘s fourth season.

On the subject of Michael Richards’ controversial racially-charged scandal at a comedy club, David would only say that “Curb” possibly will address the fallout.

Of the four principles, all but Michael Richards have appeared on “Curb,” which stars “Seinfeld” co-creator Larry David as a fictional version of himself. After appearing in a season one episode, Julia Louis-Dreyfus was part of a season two arc that involved her and David teaming up for a sitcom pitch (for a series that David first conceived as a Jason Alexander vehicle–Alexander appeared during the second season as well). Jerry Seinfeld made a brief appearance in the fourth season finale.
