This week, it earns the sole claim over that distinction.
The song indeed spends a twenty-third week as the hottest overall song in America, setting a new longevity record. It does while remaining a force in the sales (#1 for sales this week), streaming (#1 for streams this week), and radio (#2 for radio this week) factors that define Hot 100 placement.
Without obvious competition in the current tracking period, “Choosin’ Texas” seemingly has a clear path to a 24th week on top. It will then likely fall from the top spot — at least for a moment — as Taylor Swift’s new single “Patient Zero” heads for #1 on the following week’s listing.
