Multiple sources reported early Sunday that former “American Idol” judge has officially agreed to re-team with Simon Cowell for FOX’s adaptation of “The X Factor.”
Viewed as the obvious outcome since Cowell first confirmed plans to bring “The X Factor” to the US, Abdul’s addition to the judging panel was nonetheless not an issue-free journey. Over the weekend, word broke that there were various sticking points preventing a deal from being made, with some wondering whether the FOX music competition series could sign Abdul in time for Sunday’s first tapings with the judges.
THR initially reported an issue stemming from Abdul’s contract with CBS for failed series “Live to Dance,” which apparently contained language that could have prevented her from jumping to FOX. That issue was worked out, but there were some other negotiation points that remained in limbo as the weekend progressed.
Those issues have apparently been resolved, however, and sources believe Abdul will definitely be in attendance.
She joins Cowell, Cheryl Cole and Antonio “LA” Reid on the judging panel. Nicole Scherzinger and Steve Jones, meanwhile, are confirmed as the hosts.
