Three of the year’s most acclaimed films–all contenders for the Best Picture Academy Award–picked up early wins at the 83rd annual Oscars ceremony.
“The Fighter” co-star Melissa Leo predictably won the Best Supporting Actress trophy. Though she had picked up some bad press for running her own promotional campaign ahead of the voting deadline, there was little question that her performance in the movie would seal the deal on an Academy Awards win.
“The Social Network” also picked up a predictable award–the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. Writer Aaron Sorkin won the award for his script, which was based on “The Accidental Billionaires.”
Best Original Screenplay went to David Seidler of “The King’s Speech.”
