The season premiere of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” was the biggest show on television Tuesday.

It was not, however, nearly as big as the previous season opener.

According to fast national data posted by Showbuzz, “AGT” drew a 1.7 adults 18-49 rating and averaged 9.74 million overall viewers.

The numbers trail the 2.5 rating and 12.16 million viewer mark posted by last year’s premiere. Not simply down from the season opener, they actually trail every performance from last summer’s season.

They are, however, on par with the numbers delivered during the winter “AGT: The Champions” competition.

Leading out of the season fourteen “AGT” premiere, NBC’s new “Songland” drew a 1.2 adults 18-49 rating and 5.85 million viewers. “Songland” was the #1 show in the 10PM hour, and its retention out of “AGT” is consistent with realistic expectations.

The key, of course, is that “AGT” opened lower than some expected. The raw number for “Songland,” therefore, may be a bit lower than some may have hoped.

Still, given the current live TV landscape, it is hard to imagine NBC is worriedly sweating Tuesday’s primetime sweep.
