The classic “MTV Unplugged” franchise returns on September 8; singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes will perform during that premiere episode.

MTV just revealed the headliner for the following week’s broadcast.

According to an announcement from MTV, Bleachers will be the focus of the September 15 episode. The set was recently taped at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ.

The Jack Antonoff-fronted band did not take the stage alone.

Lorde and Carly Rae Jepsen, with whom Antonoff has worked on recordings, joined Bleachers for the intimate, unplugged set.

“Unplugged was the first time I played the songs from Gone Now live,” says Antonoff. “I had just finished making the album, and I immediately went into to rehearsal deconstructing the songs I had just produced to play live at Unplugged.

It was all months before the world heard it and we got to change the arrangements at my favorite venue in the world with a small room full of people who had no cell phones. I grew up playing shows at the Stone Pony and watching Unplugged on TV. It was incredible to bring these two together.”

“MTV Unplugged: Bleachers” will air at 8PM ET/PT on September 15.
