“SNL” Premiere Ratings Soar For Margot Robbie, The Weeknd Episode

The season premiere of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” posted significant year-over-year ratings gains.

Citing metered market data, NBC says Saturday’s episode drew a strong 5.8 overnight household rating. The number markedly tops the 4.5 delivered by last year’s premiere.

This year’s “SNL” opener was also up substantially in adults 18-49. This year’s premiere drew a 2.7 demo rating in the 25 markets with local people meters; last year’s show drew a 2.0.

Saturday’s “SNL” premiere featured host Margot Robbie, musical guest The Weeknd and surprise appearances by Alec Baldwin and Larry David. In addition to interest in the guests, the episode likely benefited from airing during presidential election season.

Last year’s premiere featured Miley Cyrus as host and musical guest.
