ZAYN’s “PILLOWTALK” Extends Lead In Pop Radio Race; Mike Posner Leapfrogs DNCE

Barring an unlikely late-week twist of fate, ZAYN’s “PILLOWTALK” will claim #1 on this week’s Mediabase pop radio airplay chart.

The song, which took a slight lead at the onset of the week, has extended its advantage over the past few days.

It received 9,453 spins during the first four days of the April 17-23 tracking week. Up 10.3% from the count at this point last week, the tally slots “PILLOWTALK” at #1 on Mediabase’s building chart — with 717 more spins than the building number two song.

That number two song, interestingly, is not DNCE’s “Cake By The Ocean,” which seemed like a potential contender for #1 at the beginning of the week (label Republic even declared it was “heading #1 this week” in its weekly promotional briefing).

It is Mike Posner’s “I Took A Pill In Ibiza.” Also being promoted by Republic, “Pill” received 8,736 spins during the week’s first four days (+8.4%).

“Cake” is actually down in spins thus far this week; it is #3 on the building chart with 8,660 (-1.4%).

If it continues slipping — and if Lukas Graham’s “7 Years” (8,524, +16.8%) continues soaring — it may even fall to #4 by week’s end.
