Selena Gomez’ “Revival” Wins Sales Race With 85K; Takes #1 on BB200 (Updated)

Update: Powered by 84,907 first-week sales in the US, Selena Gomez’ “Revival” takes #1 on the Billboard Top Album Sales chart.

With Track Equivalent Albums (10 single sales = 1 album equivalent unit) and Streaming Equivalent Albums (1500 single streams = 1 album equivalent unit) added to its sales figure, “Revival” posted a consumption total of 117,000 units during the October 9-15 tracking week. That comfortably earns “Revival” the #1 spot on the Billboard 200; it becomes Gomez’ second such #1.

“Stars Dance,” Gomez’ previous #1 (and previous release), sold 97,000 pure copies in its first week of release.

The final Billboard/Nielsen sales breakdown will not be issued until Sunday, but a preliminary report suggests that Selena Gomez’ “Revival” narrowly won the weekly US sales race.

According to Hits Daily Double, “Revival” shifted approximately 86,264 pure copies during the October 9-15 tracking week. That gives it a slight edge over The Game’s “The Documentary 2,” which Hits says sold roughly 81,614 during the week.

Because Billboard’s data can differ slightly from the Hits data, there is still a remote possibility that “The Documentary 2” lands higher on its final Top Album Sales chart. As of now, however, it looks like “Revival” held onto its early lead and debuted as the week’s best-selling album.

Clearer is its victory on the consumption-oriented Billboard 200. With Track Equivalent Albums (10 single sales = 1 album equivalent unit) and Streaming Equivalent Albums (1500 single streams = 1 album equivalent unit) added to its sales figure, Hits says “Revival” posted a first week consumption total of ~117,374 units. The Game’s album generated approximately 94,529 total consumption units.

“Revival” is the follow-up to “Stars Dance,” which debuted at #1 on the then-sales-only Billboard 200 with 97,000. “The Documentary 2” succeeds “Jesus Piece,” which debuted at #6 with 86,000 first week sales.
