Birdy’s “Skinny Love” Earns Platinum Certification in the US

Birdy [Fire Within US]

Birdy’s debut single is officially platinum in the United States.

Her “Skinny Love,” which is a Bon Iver cover, earned the distinction on August 7, 2015. Under the terms of the RIAA’s digital singles program, the platinum certification confirms a US unit total in excess of 1 million.

A unit is equal to one paid download or 100 streams.

Birdy’s “Skinny Love” was never a chart hit in the United States — it only gained mild interest at radio and failed to reach the Billboard Hot 100 — but it indeed garnered support from US music fans.

That support ultimately resulted in this month’s platinum milestone.

— The Bon Iver version of “Skinny Love” currently holds a gold certification.
