HBO’s “Ballers” Officially Renewed for Season Two

Since premiering on June 21, HBO’s new comedy “Ballers” has suffered two consecutive ratings drops.

Those declines did not prevent the network from ordering a second season.

HBO today confirmed that it has renewed its comedy, which comes from “Entourage” creator Stephen Levinson and airs out of “True Detective.”

“The charismatic and hugely talented Dwayne Johnson, along with the rest of the BALLERS cast, has truly struck a chord with the HBO audience,” said HBO’s Lombardo. “We are thrilled with the overwhelming response the series has received and look forward to another exciting season.”

While not spectacular – especially insofar as the show features one of the biggest movie stars in the world – the ratings have been solid by HBO standards. Moreover, the show has proven very popular with time-shifters and on-demand viewers.

The June 21 premiere, for instance, reached 2.162 million viewers for its first-run broadcast but 8.9 million total views across all HBO platforms and 5.6 million on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Facebook.
