Demi Lovato’s “Cool for the Summer” is officially a Top 40 hit in the United States.
Billboard confirms that the song, which arrived at radio and digital retailers on July 1, appears at #36 on this week’s edition of the all-encompassing Billboard Hot 100.
Because the sales and streaming tracking week ran from Monday through Sunday, the Wednesday release adversely impacted those chart components.
The release date, meanwhile, worked to the advantage of the song’s radio chart points. Since the radio tracking week ran from Wednesday through Tuesday, the song’s entire first week of airplay — including the first day, which was bolstered by hourly plays on iHeart stations — counted toward its radio scores.
Cut from her forthcoming fifth studio album, “Cool” is Lovato’s eighth solo Top 40 (and eleventh overall) entry.
She previously reached that portion of the chart with the #26-peaking “Really Don’t Care (featuring Cher Lloyd).”
“Cool for the Summer” — and the new album — are released on the new Safehouse Records. Founded by Lovato and Nick Jonas, the project is affiliated with both Republic and Hollywood Records.
