Little Big Town’s “Girl Crush” Has 2015’s Best Sales Week for a Country Song

Thanks to undeniable momentum, exposure from Meghan Linsey’s “The Voice” cover and a few hours’ worth of Academy of Country Music Awards buzz, Little Big Town’s “Girl Crush” scored 2015’s best weekly sales figure for a country single.

According to Capitol Nashville, “Girl Crush” moved at least 95,000 copies during the April 13-19 sales tracking week. Since the beginning of 2015, no country single has driven that many weekly purchases.

The label adds that 30,000 of the song’s weekly, paid downloads came Sunday night.

Little Big Town performed “Girl Crush” during the 9:30-10PM portion of the 50th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards broadcast. In the wake of the critically acclaimed performance, the song quickly surged into the upper reaches of the iTunes single sales chart.

And insofar as it remains at its #2 peak, it clearly maintained a furious sales pace for the duration of Monday. That bodes well for the total it will achieve during the April 20-26 tracking week.

Sam Hunt’s “Take Your Time,” which thus far boasts the highest year-to-date sales total for a country single, was the only other ACM-related song to reach the Top 10 on iTunes. Unlike “Girl Crush,” it has already fallen from that region and is currently positioned at #12.
