Ariana Grande’s “Santa Tell Me” Hits #5 at AC, Meghan Trainor’s “I’ll Be Home” Rises

Adult contemporary radio spent the seven days before Christmas enthusiastically spinning holiday originals from some of music’s biggest names.

“Santa Tell Me,” a Christmas original from pop superstar Ariana Grande, ranked as the adult contemporary format’s fifth-most-played song between December 18 and 24. According to Mediabase, it commanded 508 spins during that window.

Radio also demonstrated interest in “I’ll Be Home,” a seasonal original from breakthrough star–and “Big Four” Grammy nominee–Meghan Trainor. The recipient of 459 AC spins, her track was the format’s #8 song during the aforementioned seven day period.

Penatonix’s original “That’s Christmas to Me,” which was a Top 5 adult contemporary track ahead of this past week, rose to #3 during the December 18-24 frame. It received 676 plays.

Kelly Clarkson’s “Wrapped in Red” held at its #2 peak with 803 spins.

Led by Idina Menzel’s “Baby It’s Cold Outside (featuring Michael Buble)” and home to the aforementioned tracks, the top ten of the adult contemporary airplay chart is dominated by holiday music. Taylor Swift’s #6 “Shake it Off,” Meghan Trainor’s #9 “All About That Bass” and Sam Smith’s “Stay with Me” are the only tracks that do not fit the bill.
