Hot 100: 1D’s “Night Changes,” Lorde’s “Yellow Flicker Beat” Go Top 40

Outside of its two impressive debuts–James Newton Howard’s “The Hanging Tree” at #12 and Beyonce’s “7/11” at #18–the top forty of this week’s Hot 100 also features three songs at new peaks.

After opening its run at #55 last week, One Direction’s new single “Night Changes” elevates to #31. In addition to surging airplay and respectable sales, the “Night Changes” chart campaign was aided by a a full week of music video viewership.

Back on the radar following the release of “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” and performances on the American Music Awards and “The Tonight Show,” Lorde’s “Yellow Flicker Beat” rises to a new peak of #34 this week. It bests last week’s position by 31.

OT Genasis’ “CoCo,” meanwhile, rises thirty nine places to a new high of #38.
