Meghan Trainor Bests Taylor Swift in Sales Race; “Bass” Sells 312K

Fueled by surging airplay and high-profile exposure on NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” cruised to its best sales week yet.

The track garnered 312,000 paid downloads last week, which represented a gain of 17% over the prior week’s total and the song’s first weekly sum in excess of 300,000.

It also gave “Bass” the edge over Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off,” which had spent the previous two weeks in the number one position.

Down to #2 this week, Swift’s single moved 281,000 copies last week. In the market for three weeks, “Shake” now claims a cumulative sales total of nearly 1.2 million.

Jessie J + Ariana Grande + Nicki Minaj’s “Bang Bang” held at #3 with 170,000 sales, while Iggy Azalea’s “Black Widow (featuring Rita Ora)” (#4, 143,000) and Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” (#5, 130,000) completed the top five.

Other top ten sellers: Ariana Grande’s “Break Free (featuring Zedd)” (#6, 95,000), Sam Smith’s “Stay with Me” (#7, 84,000), Clean Bandit’s “Rather Be (featuring Jess Glynne)” (#8, 82,000), MAGIC!’s “Rude” (#9, 81,000) and Sia’s “Chandelier” (#10, 79,000).
