New Music Sales: Lady Gaga’s “Do What U Want” Outpaces Bieber, Swift

She was not the only pop heavyweight to release a new song Monday, but as of press time, she is standing the tallest.

“Do What U Want (featuring R. Kelly),” a promotional single from her upcoming album “Artpop,” needed only a few hours to advance to the apex of iTunes’ overall sales chart Monday.

At press time, it was outpacing “Hold Tight,” Justin Bieber’s latest “Music Mondays” release and the chart’s number two song, by a 1.85x multiple.

Though the positioning was likely to change by late Monday morning, Lorde’s “Royals,” Katy Perry’s “Roar” and Eminem’s “Rap God” were holding down the balance of the top five. “Sweeter Than Fiction,” Taylor Swift’s new collaboration with fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff, had reached number six.
