MTV VMAs Highlights: ‘N Sync Reunites, Miley Cyrus Twerks with Thicke

One would not ruffle any feathers by calling the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards the Justin Timberlake show.

Though the broadcast featured number of quality–and cringeworthy–performances, the show ultimately functioned as a celebration for the “Mirrors” singer. In addition to receiving the Vanguard Award and the Award for Best Video, Timberlake also received ample time to perform a medley of his hits.

That medley included a brief reunion with his former boy band ‘N Sync.

Other noteworthy performances, (some) featured in the below photos from MTV, included Lady Gaga’s bizarre “Applause” opening, Miley Cyrus’ ludicrous, awkwardly-sexual segment with Robin Thicke (featuring copious amounts of twerking, grinding and other suggestive gestures), Macklemore’s heartfelt rendition of “Same Love,” Bruno Mars’ passionate version of “Gorilla” and Katy Perry’s show-closing “Roar.”
