Randy Jackson Confirms Departure from “American Idol”

Amid rumors that “American Idol” is yet again looking to retool, veteran judge Randy Jackson confirmed Thursday that he will depart the show at the end of the current season.

Jackson, the last remaining original judge, announced his departure in a statement to E!

“After 12 years of judging on ‘American Idol’ I have decided it is time to leave after this season. I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It’s been a life changing opportunity but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures,” said Jackson.

“Idol” has neither formally confirmed Jackson’s departure nor weighed in on the status of judges Keith Urban, Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey, all of whom are reportedly facing the ax in the offseason.
