WWE Clarifies WrestleMania 29 Record, Reveals More Attendance Stats

WWE quickly issued a press release touting its record-setting WWE WrestleMania 29 crowd.

According to the leading wrestling organization, the live event’s $12.3 million in ticket revenue makes it the highest-grossing entertainment event in the history of the MetLife Stadium. That record previously belonged to a U2 concert, which earned $8.9 million.

WWE’s listed attendance figure for the show is 80,676, which would rank second on WWE’s all-time list behind the billed figure of 93,173 for WrestleMania III in Detroit.

Industry media, however, have often alleged that WWE artificially-inflates its event attendance data (crowd size, not revenue). That 93,173 figure, in particular, has been widely mocked as inaccurate by wrestling journalists.
