“Work It” Can’t Glam-Up Soft Premiere Ratings

No one within the television industry had high expectations for the “Work It” premiere ratings, and no one, therefore, will be disappointed to know the show got off to a soft start Tuesday.

Despite airing without competition from “Glee,” “Work It” could only muster a 2.0 adults 18-49 rating with 6.1 million viewers. That demo performance is actually 17% below the opener for freshman “Man Up,” which failed as the previous Tuesday at 8:30PM timeslot occupant.

Of note regarding that comparison, however, is the fact that “Last Man Standing” has lost some luster as a lead-in. While it provided a 3.0 rating when “Man Up” debuted with a 2.4, it was down to only a 2.4 Tuesday, meaning “Work It” actually had slightly better retention.

Granted, net ratings do matter, and with the critically-panned “Work It” likely to fall in the coming weeks, its renewal prospects are not looking especially promising.
