Jane Lynch from FOX’s “Glee” Eyed as Emmys Host, Reports Say

Various reports say that “Glee” star Jane Lynch is being eyed as the host of this year’s Emmy Awards telecast, which airs on FOX as part of the shared-network deal.

Networks generally like to serve their own interests with the host selection, and as Lynch represents one of the network’s best offerings in terms of merging a big presence with comedic and musical ability, she emerged as the frontrunner.

Deadline adds that Seth MacFarlane was also on the shortlist, although the “Family Guy” creator might come across as too controversial for a live mainstream awards show broadcast.

Ryan Seacrest hosted FOX’s previous Emmys telecast in 2007.

After the critically-panned hosting format in 2008, which saw ABC turn hosting duties over to the best reality host nominees, CBS and NBC scored well-reviewed telecasts in 2009 and 2010 with Neil Patrick Harris and Jimmy Fallon as hosts, respectively.
