“The Event” Ratings Flop For Return, “Harry’s Law” Sees Little Gain

NBC’s “The Event” was nothing short of a flop in its return to television Monday, sinking below its already-disappointing numbers from the fall.

The three-month hiatus was not kind to the show, which tried to welcome new viewers by adhering to more focused, action-heavy storytelling in its two-hour return. Up against re-runs on CBS and a weaker lineup on ABC (“The Event” ran against “Dancing with the Stars” this fall), the episode averaged a mere 1.4 adults 18-49 rating with 5.23 million viewers.

Only slightly stronger than “The Cape” in the 9PM hour, “The Event” was effectively useless in boosting viewership for 10PM drama “Harry’s Law.” As a result, the well-liked NBC legal series failed to significantly reap the benefit of going against repeats on CBS and ABC–it garnered 9.40 million viewers with a 1.8 rating, a rating generally in-line with its performance against originals from one or both of the networks.

  1. Well, once again you TV “Execs” have managed to screw up a good show by shoving mis-casted Black or interracial coupling in our face. STOP IT. I have watched Harry’s Law since its debut but will no longer watch after last nights kissing scene which served no purpose whatsoever. You ruined 2 good charactors trying to be PC. SHOVE IT. I’m out

  2. I have been watching Harry’s Law since it started and really enjoy Kathy Bates. But I am tired of so many shows pushing interracial relationships, especially ones that seem so forced as the show on March 8. You lost me just like the ABC show Flash Forward that was pushing lesbian relations so strongly. Goodbye Harry!

  3. I love Harry’s Law I love the relationship between all the characters. I love each and every story line. I don’t think it should matter what race people are when they are attracted to each other. We as human beings need to be more opened minded and tolerant of others. NBC keep up the good work, Harry makes me laugh and sometimes cry. I can relate to her compassion to all. My family consists of 4 different races I am teaching my children to love with an open heart it doesn’t matter what color your skin is.

  4. Harry’s Law is good television. It must be if so many people were offended by interratial relations. It means the conversation about race is still necessary. I hope the Execs at NBC realize they are digging deep into the American pyche. The rash of conservative racism in this country needs a counterpart! Kudos! Go without fear. Kathy Bates is a huge star and a wonderful actor. Keep it up!

  5. It’s a very good show BUT I’m going to be an ex viewer if you don’t back off on the progessive agenda.

  6. Okay since when did a white girl kissing a black guy constitute a progressive agenda… Keep going NBC. Harry’s Law rocks!

  7. THE CAPE was twice the show harry’s law is.
the black on blonde romance was totally unnecessary. if it isn’t stopped i’ll stop watching.

  8. Me and my wife love Harry’s Law and hpe it returns in the Fall or earlier. We will be watching and also their is to many “Law and Order shows” UGH!

  9. Eats away at the bigots that they are a dying breed. It’s almost a waste throwing dirt on them and their hate when they die. But, we have to or else their crappy stench would linger even after they’re gone.
