“The Roommate” Leads Box Office, “Sanctum” is Nothing Special

As expected, the critically-panned “The Roommate” was able to overcome its tepid reviews for an easy box office victory Friday night.

Essentially a lock to ride its current status for a weekend box office victory, the film garnered $6.4 million Friday night for a clear victory. Fellow new release “Sanctum,” which was also negatively-reviewed, could only muster $3.6 million for second place.

“No Strings Attached” added $2.9 million to its total for a fourth place finish, topping “The King’s Speech” ($2.3 million) and “The Rite” ($1.9 million).
