CBS Drops “Cold Case,” “Numb3rs,” Keeps “Rules of Engagement”

CBS went on an absolute cancelling spree Tuesday, bringing an end to seven of its bubble series.

Out of contention for next year are veterans “Cold Case,” “Ghost Whisperer,” “Numb3rs,” “The New Adventures of Old Christine,” sophomore series “Gary Unmarried” and freshmen “Miami Medical” and “Accidentally on Purpose.”

The network did, however, offer some good news as well, keeping “Medium” and “Rules of Engagement” on the schedule next year. “Medium”‘s fate was considered a toss-up with Friday companions “Whisperer” and “Numb3rs,” while “Rules” became a near sure-thing after showing ratings and creative strength this season.

The assumption is that CBS’ cancellations open the door for at least one more comedy pickup–the network had already greenlit “Bleep My Dad Says” and “Mike & Molly” for next year.
