“Modern Family” Hits Ratings High, “American Idol” Results Improve

As “Modern Family” wraps up its critically-acclaimed first season, it does so with viewers more interested than ever.

Wednesday’s episode scored a series-high 4.3 adults 18-49 rating with 10.335 million viewers, situating “Family” just under the mark set by veteran smash “Two and a Half Men” this past Monday. The show is simply red hot for ABC right now, although it did not spur as significant improvements for the rest of ABC’s Wednesday comedy lineup.

“The Middle” was fairly soft with a 2.4 and 7.488 million viewers, while “Family” lead-out “Cougar Town” continued to underwhelm with a 2.7 and 6.233 million watching. In its final episode before a hiatus through June, lame-duck series “Happy Town” was the night’s worst original with a 1.1 and 3.037 million.

With CBS’ lineup performing in expected territory–“The New Adventures of Old Christine” averaged a 1.8 with 6.888 million, “Criminal Minds” was good for a 3.4 and 13.066 million and “CSI: NY” posted a 2.5 with 11.363 million–FOX was able to claim the night despite opening with a “Lie to Me” re-run.

Powerhouse “American Idol” dominated at 9PM with a 6.6 and 19.569 million viewers for its results show, marking a slight increase from last week (but nowhere near the more-than-ten percent increase enjoyed by Tuesday’s performance show).

NBC aired “Minute to Win It” (6.858 million, 2.0), “Mercy” (4.007 million, 1.1) and “Law & Order: SVU” (8.569 million, 2.8), while The CW bet on “America’s Next Top Model” (3.767 million, 1.7).
