“How I Met Your Mother” Creators Working on New Comedy

It was only a matter of time. With “How I Met Your Mother” having been firmly established as one of television’s premier comedies–the CBS sitcom just celebrated its 100th episode–creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are officially working on a new show.

The duo recently renewed its deal with 20th Century Fox; in addition to resuming their duties on “How I Met,” the two will also begin working on new projects.

The two will not be taking a risk with their first new project. According to THR, the new potential pilot, for which Bays and Thomas developed a spec with Kourtney Kang and Joe Kelly, is set in Pittsburgh and will focus on a young couple and its friends. “How I Met Your Mother,” by comparison, centers on a group of five young adults, two of whom are married (and were engaged at the time of the show’s pilot).

“The new show is similar tonally to ‘How I Met Your Mother’ and investigates the next chapter, the next stage of adulthood,” says Bays.

Though the new series is expected to generate heat when it hits the market this week, Bays and Thomas have reportedly vowed not to relinquish their duties on “How I Met.”
