Vampire Weekend’s “Contra” To Top Omarion With Big Album Sales Week

Buzzed-about act Vampire Weekend could score a number one debut for its eagerly anticipated sophomore album “Contra.”

The indie rock act is paced to move 110-120,000 copies of its new album this week, according to one-day sales extensions from Hits Daily Double.

If it lives up to that projection (which could prove to be a fairly rough indicator, given the level of first-day online purchases), it would be in position to narrowly top holdover sensation Susan Boyle’s “I Dreamed a Dream,” which should be good for another 100,000 next week.

Ke$ha’s “Animal,” which topped this week’s album chart, is not expected to be in contention for the top spot next week.

Among new releases, Omarion’s “Ollusion” is the only one tracking for volume–it will land at about the 20,000 mark for the week.

  1. Susan Boyle is an incredibly talented lady who’s been subjected to considerable ridicule in the media. IMHO she deserves every bit of success that she is experiencing.
