NBC Gives Great News to “Chuck,” Extends Episode Order

NBC’s decision to renew bubble series “Chuck” for a third season came after a wave of serious pessimism and an aggressive fan campaign involving Subway (which will be a major sponsor for the upcoming season).

There can no longer be doubt that NBC is behind the action-comedy.

Variety confirmed Wednesday that NBC ordered an additional six episodes of the midseason entry, upping its order from thirteen to nineteen.

“Chuck” was initially not expected to premiere until March 2010, but the show’s season bow is now looking good for January.

With “Southland” canceled and “Trauma” not set to receive a full season pickup, NBC’s schedule can suddenly benefit from more “Chuck.” Further, while the show was not a ratings powerhouse, its past demographic numbers would rank well in comparison to young adult ratings for many of the network’s current hourlong programs.
