“Dollhouse” Ratings Tank, “Brothers,” “Smallville,” “Medium” Also Soft

There have been some breakout hits and unexpected surprises this television season, but no such shows air on Friday.

FOX’s Friday nightmare continued with “Brothers,” “Til Death” and “Dollhouse” all struggling. The critically-panned comedy hour featured week two of “Brothers” pulling a mere 2.4 million viewers with a low 0.8 18-49 rating. The season premiere of “Til Death” barely registered with 2.3 million viewers and a 0.8.

“Dollhouse,” meanwhile, dipped into scary territory with a new low–2.1 million viewers and a 0.8 rating. At such levels, there is just no way “Dollhouse” will earn a third season.

Of course, Friday was not just a bad night for FOX. Even CBS, the night’s leading network, failed to impress. Its trio of dramas–“Ghost Whisperer” (7.6 million, 1.7), “Medium” (7.7 million, 1.8) and “Numbers” (7.7 million, 1.6)–all garnered unspectacular ratings.

Elsewhere, The CW’s “Smallville” was down to 2.4 million viewers and a 0.9 adults 18-49 rating, while NBC’s “Law & Order” (6.7 million, 1.2) held fairly steady in its unimpressive ratings zone.

  1. When will these higher up people realize that now people are just too worried about how they are going to pay their mortage and bills to be watching and enjoying these television shows like they used to.

  2. I don’t blame Hulu or the DVR (the DVR shifts and alternate viewing habits don’t make up a huge difference) or people being too worried about how to pay bills to watch. If they are cutting expenses, they probably WOULD be watching.

Friday nights are supposed to be a little bit special, so the fact that lots of people are not just sitting home and watching regular TV isn’t a surprise. So right there any show would take a hit. CBS is probably doing good actually. Very steady numbers. Dollhouse, a good show, has a very limited fanbase so, yeah it is suffering. Same goes for a number of the other shows. Then there are shows like “Brothers” & “Til Death” that are pretty bland and “Smallville” that is now one of the worst shows still on air (and this from someone who watched it the first 8 years)

  3. If any of these net works were smart or had any common sense what so ever!!!! They would go back look at the rating “The Game” had with the CW network and pick them back up!!! As for the CW network they really do suck with all their boring shows that no one seems to be watching!!

  4. I tried to watch an episode of brothers but had to end the suffering after 5 mins. CW network the only hope they had was The Game i really miss that show so now i dont care if all their shows get cancelled.

  5. This show is laugh out loud funny and very entertaining especially considering everything else that is on TV at this time. I love it! They tried to say the same thing about The Game, Girlfriends and Living Single and people love these shows. I smell conspiracy!

  6. The networks always put any african american show on bad nights and little publicity. The Brothers is a really good show as was The Game remember the show City of Angels with Blair Underwood and Viveca that was an excellent show they took it off once (low viewing) but brought it back after Tom Joyner started got his listeners to call the network. It came back on but didn’t stay on long.. This is nothing new heck, even the Cosby Show was a surprise for the network….

  7. CAN ANYONE SAY THE GAME?!?!?! I watch the reruns on BET. We should all go to the CW’s website and have people email the CW executives until they bring The Game back – We are the customers – I would love to see current runs of that show again! We CAN make a change – let’s try it and get some good TV shows back on again! I’m going to start the first email – Comon ya’ll let’s see if it works…we have to bombard them with emails until they have no choice…What do you think??? BTW – I am usually a pessimist – but I really do enjoy The Game!
