Off since late January, FOX’s “Lucifer” returns with an original installment Monday at 9PM ET/PT.
Entitled “Candy Morningstar,” the episode begins the march to the upcoming second season finale. The term “season finale” is important — FOX has already confirmed a third season.
“Candy Morningstar” takes place a few weeks after the events of the winter finale, in which Lucifer learned that his father had deliberately put Chloe in his path. Following the heartbreaking revelation, Lucifer disappeared without notice.

Meet Mrs. Morningstar
Lucifer ditched his apartment (and, seemingly, Los Angeles) in the closing moments of the last episode. We learn that he has been off the grid for weeks.
When he returns for this week’s episode, he does so with a new wife on his arm: Candy (guest star Lindsey Gort).
A Vegas stripper, Candy is charming and endearing, but she does not exactly dazzle the team with her intellect.
The marriage seems suspicious to some characters — and will seem downright preposterous to most viewers. It certainly appears to be some sort of ruse.

Emotional Consequences
When season one began, Lucifer was the quintessential, unattached bachelor.
In the episodes since, Lucifer has built meaningful bonds with his partner/potential love interest Chloe, his brother Amenadiel, and even his therapist Linda. Thanks to those bonds, there are emotional stakes accompanying his decision to ghost everyone. It matters to them — and hurts them — that he disappeared for a few weeks, and he’ll face the music in this episode.
By the same token, the other characters — particularly Chloe — are also confronted with the realization that there may be two sides to the situation. Since Lucifer means something to them, is it crazy to consider that they may mean something to him?
Lead Singer Down
The episode’s “case of the week” involves a rock band. The lead singer is found murdered — with an unusual wound on his head — just as the band’s career was finally taking flight.
Lucifer On The Job
He may not be on the best of terms with Chloe, but Lucifer is unwilling to walk away from his job. He eases his way back into the LAPD and works with Chloe, Dan and Ella to identify the murderer.
At one point, the investigation requires Lucifer and Chloe to go undercover.
Setting The Stage
An action-packed episode in its own right, Monday’s “Lucifer” also serves as a “setup” episode.
By the end of the hour, viewers will get a clear sense of the direction “Lucifer” will be taking over the final second season episodes.
