One Direction’s Liam Payne Signs With Republic Records; Label Has “Extremely High Expectations”

As Niall Horan’s debut single “This Town” begins to take flight, news comes of another One Direction member scoring a solo record deal.

Liam Payne has signed with Republic Records for North America, the label confirmed in a Monday morning press release.

Per the press release, Liam “kicks off his solo career with new music coming soon via an alliance with Capitol UK label led by Nick Raphael.”

“With Republic’s track record of launching powerhouse talent in the US including superstars like Drake, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, Lorde, and countless others, I am more than confident we have assembled the best possible team alongside Capitol’s UK label to launch and shepherd Liam’s solo career,” said Payne’s manager Simon Oliveira.

“Being a member of the most successful group of the last decade, Liam has a tremendous opportunity to make an even greater impact on pop culture,” added Republic CEO Monte Lipman. “We’re honored by Liam’s decision to join Republic Records, and have extremely high expectations for his solo career.”

Horan’s debut single “This Town” has thus far reached the Top 10 in the UK and Top 25 on the US Billboard Hot 100. It has also joined the Top 25 at US pop radio.

Former One Direction member ZAYN has also achieved success with solo release. His debut single “PILLOWTALK” reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, while his first album “Mind Of Mine” started at #1 on the Billboard 200.
