Last month, news broke that Apple Music had ordered a standalone adaption of James Corden’s popular “Carpool Karaoke” sketch.
Thursday, another popular segment from Corden’s “The Late Late Show” received a series order.
TBS confirms that it gave the greenlight to a series adaptation of “Drop The Mic.” Corden, Ben Winston, and Jensen “Hot Karl” Karp are executive producing the show.
As with the “Carpool Karaoke” show, Corden will not be hosting or regularly appearing on the standalone version of “Drop The Mic.”
TBS’ order is for sixteen episodes. Each will feature four celebrities competing in a “rap battle royale”; the studio audience will select the winner.
“James Corden and Ben Winston have struck a nerve with their celebrity-driven, music-infused, incredibly fun content,” said Turner Network’s Michael Bloom. “This series embodies the kind of unique and surprising programming we are looking for as we reinvent our approach to this genre within the new TBS brand.”
