The Avett Brothers’ “True Sadness,” which arrived on the US iTunes store just prior to midnight Thursday, predictably rocketed to #1 on the store’s album sales chart.
As of 2:45AM ET Friday morning, it is still positioned atop the chart.
Two holdover albums directly follow; Drake’s “Views” is presently #2 on the chart, while Beyonce’s “Lemonade” is #3.
Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “The Getaway,” which entered the market last week, is #4 on the chart. The “Hamilton: An American Musical” cast recording holds #5.
DJ Shadow’s #6 “Will The Mountain Fall,” Mumford & Sons’ #7 “Johannesburg” EP, Riff Raff’s #8 “Peach Panther,” J Balvin’s #9 “Energia,” and BROODS’ #10 “Conscious” form the balance of the Top 10.
Success on the iTunes chart does not always translate to the broader market, although “True Sadness” very much is expected to fare competitively well this week. Specific sales projections should emerge Saturday.
