Justin Bieber’s “Purpose” Crosses 1.5 Million US Sales Mark

Justin Bieber’s “Purpose” first entered the market on November 13, 2015.

By February 11, 2016, it boasted a US sales total in excess of 1.5 million.

According to Nielsen Music, Bieber’s latest album sold 29,352 US copies during the February 5-11 tracking week. Up 4% from the previous week’s tally, the count pushed “Purpose” to approximately 1.5004 million.

On December 7, 2015, “Purpose” was officially certified platinum under the RIAA’s old system, which issued album awards based on confirmed US shipments.

As of February 1, 2016, a certified album unit is equivalent to either one album sale, 10 track sales, or 1500 track streams. Given the album’s success at driving track sales and streams, “Purpose” clearly qualifies for at least a double platinum certification. Headline Planet will report on new certifications if and when they are made official.
