David Bowie’s “Blackstar,” which was released two days prior to the iconic musician’s death, is on track to win the weekly US sales race.

According to Hits Daily Double, “Blackstar” is expected to sell 155-165,000 US copies during the January 8-14 tracking week.

Such a tally would give “Blackstar” a clear edge over Adele’s “25” — and all other albums.

Hits expects Adele’s “25,” which has won the past seven sales races, to sell 120-125,000 tracking week copies.

Other projected top 5 sellers this week include Bowie’s “Best Of Bowie” (~40-45,000), Justin Bieber’s “Purpose” (~40-45,000), and Chris Stapleton’s “Traveller” (~25-28,000).

— “Blackstar” is also expected to win the consumption race, which accounts for pure sales, Track Equivalent Albums (track sales/10) and Streaming Equivalent Albums (track streams/1500). If it does so, it will become Bowie’s first #1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
