While ten third season episodes have yet to air, NBC has already made the decision to pass on a fourth season of critically acclaimed “Hannibal.”
Never a strong ratings performer, NBC’s “Hannibal” has faced particular struggle in season three. And while the first two episodic performances could be blamed on competition from ABC’s NBA Finals coverage, such an excuse would not extend to this week’s performance.
Thursday’s episode drew a 0.5 adults 18-49 rating with 1.69 million viewers. The former number tied the previous week’s series low, while the latter narrowly avoided reaching the 1.66 million viewer floor.
“We have been tremendously proud of ‘Hannibal’ over its three seasons,” says NBC. “Bryan and his team of writers and producers, as well as our incredible actors, have brought a visual palette of storytelling that has been second to none in all of television — broadcast or cable. We thank Gaumont and everyone involved in the show for their tireless efforts that have made ‘Hannibal’ an incredible experience for audiences around the world.”
As of press time, the remaining ten episodes are scheduled to air.
