Melissa Benoist Responds to “Supergirl” Role

Former “Glee” star Melissa Benoist has been named CBS’ “Supergirl,” and she is “so excited” for the opportunity.

If only social media gave her a means of most effectively sharing that excitement.

“I wish there was a superhero emoji,” Tweeted Benoist, who latere added, “But seriously, sans emoji… I AM SO EXCITED.”

Benoist, who appeared as Marley on the fourth and fifth seasons of “Glee,” joins CBS’ high-profile superhero project. Set for a spot on next year’s schedule, “Supergirl” chronicles Kara Zor-El (Benoist), who had been hiding her superhuman abilities since arriving on Earth. Now 24, she decides to fulfill her destiny as a hero.

Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler wrote the pilot. Several names, including Claire Holt and Elizabeth Lail, were among those considered for the role won by Benoist.
