Few artists will ever watch their song rise to the top of the iTunes Single Sales chart.
That achievement represents only a fraction of what transpired in the world of Ariana Grande Tuesday.
As new “My Everything” track “Best Mistake (featuring Big Sean)” worked its way to the #1 position on the iTunes chart, current radio single “Break Free (featuring Zedd)” began to make a climb of its own.
By noon, it was in the Top 10. By Tuesday evening, it was in the Top 6. By the time the day came to a close, the song had returned to the digital retailer’s Top 5.
Currently #4 on the iTunes chart, it is shockingly only Grande’s third-highest-charting effort. “Best Mistake” remains number one while Grande’s “Bang Bang” collaboration with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj is currently #3.
Smash single “Problem” is #12 on iTunes, which means Grande has a total of three songs in the Top 4 and four in the Top 12.
But even that statement of accomplishment undersells the entirety of Grande’s Tuesday. The pop superstar also used the big day to introduce the official music video for “Break Free.”
Wacky and space-themed, the video will be immune to the criticisms of blandness and complacency that many levied against her “Problem” video. It is a memorable one, and it is sure to rack up the streaming points needed to push the song up the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
