Aware that she is not a quintessential rock star, Lorde last month laughed at her Billboard Music Awards nominations for Best Rock Artist, Album and Song.
“shit i got nominated for 12 billboard awards? including best rock artist/album/song haha ~RAWK~” Tweeted the playfully perplexed Lorde on April 9.
And if the mere act of being nominated would warrant a comedic reaction, surely a victory in any rock category would elicit a reaction of humorous bewilderment.
Indeed it did. And it came in GIF form.
“This is me confused about unwittingly having written best ~rock~ song lol dork,” Tweeted Lorde, with an attached Tumblr GIF showcasing her wry reaction to winning the award for Best Rock Song. A version of the GIF, issued by the awards show’s publicity team, follows:
In addition to scoring Best Rock Song for her breakthrough smash “Royals,” Lorde also claimed the trophy for Top New Artist and performed “Tennis Court” at Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards.
