UFC Confirms Battle of Heavyweight Contenders

An withdrawal veteran heavyweight fighter Heath Herring has allowed UFC to pair two of the division’s most feared contenders for a match at UFC 99.

With Herring reportedly unable to train due to an illness, the “Texas Crazyhorse” was removed from his scheduled bout with rising star Cain Velasquez earlier this week. UFC has now confirmed that Cheick Kongo will fill the vacancy.

7-2 in the Octagon, Kongo has won his last three fights via TKO. Velasquez, meanwhile, has been a dominant 3-0 in the UFC, living up to his hype as a future contender for the UFC Heavyweight Championship.

UFC 99 takes place in Cologne, Germany on June 13.
