A precise forecast is not yet available, but all indications are that Taylor Swift’s “The Life of a Showgirl” will break the US opening-week record currently held by Adele’s “25.”

That record stands at 3.48 million first-week US sales; Hits Daily Double says Swift’s new album is a lock to surpass 3.5 million in first-week US activity and could challenge for 4 million.

Released in November 2015, “25” generated all but about 100K activity from pure album sales. “Showgirl” will receive a much bigger lift, but it could challenge the 3.38 million pure sales mark achieved by “25.” After all, Billboard notes that the album had sold 2.7 million in pure copies by the end of its first day.

Either way, the debut will be a remarkable achievement in an era where even 500K first-week units has become unfathomable for all but the absolute biggest stars.
