Last April, Taylor Swift set the single-day Spotify Streaming record by amassing 25,204,472 opening day plays for her single “Fortnight (featuring Post Malone).”
This Friday, she obliterated her own record.
“The Fate Of Ophelia,” the opening track and focus single from her new album “The Life Of A Showgirl,” received a whopping 30,987,370 plays on Friday.
It unsurprisingly debuts at #1 on the Global Spotify chart for October 3. Equally unsurprisingly, the 12-song album forms the chart’s entire Top 12.
With over 20 million streams each (a mark no other artist has ever achieved with a non-holiday song), “Elizabeth Taylor” (#2), “Opalite” (#3), “Father Figure” (#4), and “Eldest Daughter” (#5) directly follow. “Actually Romantic” (#6), “Wood” (#7), “CANCELLED!” (#8), “Wi$h Li$t” (#9), “Ruin The Friendship” (#10), “The Life Of A Showgirl” (#11), and “Honey” (#12) also performed well on Friday, with none receiving fewer than 15,995,465 streams.
The “Showgirl” album was also dominant in Swift’s United States home; the tracks form the entire Top 12 on that national chart, with the Top 4 performers: “Ophelia,” “Opalite,” “Elizabeth Taylor,” and “Father Figure” all registering over 10 million American plays.
