John Mayer shared a new song at midnight, and it is proving resonant with music buyers.

Entitled “Carry Me Away,” the track blasted into the Top 5 on the US iTunes sales chart. It occupies the #5 position on the all-genre listing as of press time at 9:15AM ET Friday.

Only Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts,” Post Malone’s “Circles,” Camila Cabello’s “Shameless,” and Camila Cabello’s “Liar” are currently selling at a faster pace.

“Carry Me Away” also received prominent placement on Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist. While it does not have the rhythmic-leaning qualities of a typical streaming hit, the strong placement should amount to solid opening week performance.
